Teeth Whitening Treatment

Teeth whitening is one of the most widely used, affordable and quickest procedures of cosmetic dentistry. It gives beautiful results in a short period of time and is suitable for almost anyone who wants to beautify their smile. The treatment is often used in combination with other restorative and cosmetic dental treatments to obtain optimal results.

Common causes of stains and discolorations and stains in the teeth are:

  • Food and drinks. Many foods cause teeth discoloration; some examples are coffee, wine, and tea. They have intense color pigments called chromogens that stick to the tooth enamel.
  • Age. Over time, the enamel gets thinner, which exposes more of the dentin. The dentin is the softer are under the enamel.
  • Tobacco Use. Tar and nicotine are the two chemicals found in tobacco. Tar is naturally dark in color and nicotine turns yellowish once it is mixed with oxygen. Smoking tobacco causes stains in your teeth.
  • Trauma. If you have been injured or hit in the mouth, your teeth may change in color because it lays down more dentin and dentin is the darker, softer layer under the enamel.
  • Environment. Excessive fluoride from environmental sources like naturally high levels of fluoride in the water, or excessive fluoride applications from toothpaste, or supplements can cause teeth discoloration.
  • Medications. Certain antihistamines, antipsychotics, and high blood pressure medications can result to tooth darkening.
  • Disease. There are several diseases that affect the enamel and dentin of the teeth which causes teeth discoloration. Treatments for certain conditions can also affect tooth color.

Professional teeth whitening solutions are much more effective and superior than over the counter teeth whitening products that are sold at drug stores. Our office uses professional grade Opalescence teeth whitening solution. These whitening gels contain an active whitening ingredient such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide that penetrates the outer surface of the teeth (the enamel) and reacts with the stains to break the bonds holding the discoloration together. The oxygen molecules spread over the entire teeth and whiten them.

Dr. Sajid is like NASA scientists when it comes to dentistry. He knows what he's talking about, and definitely knows what he doing. The 4 pearly white crowns he put in mouth fits just right.
